Wright & McGill Teams with Skeet Reese on New Rod Series
Classic
Champion and Angler of the Year, Skeet Reese, has teamed with
legendary rod builder, Wright & McGill, to introduce a new line
of signature bass rods. The new series, called the Tessera,
combines the competitive needs of one of the most accomplished
bass anglers with the technological expertise of one of the best
known and trusted manufacturers.
The key to this eight rod series is the blank construction. It
utilizes their exclusive S-Curve technology that combines
T-Glass with high density graphite as the core of the blank. It
is further improved by weaving PBO and glass fibers into the
combination of T-Glass and graphite. The result is an extremely
strong but light blank that maintains optimum actins for their
specific applications.
There are eight specialty rods, from Drop Shot/Split shot to
Swimbait/Carolina Rig models and all you need in-between. In
addition to the excellent finish and craftsmanship, the
affordable price range, $89-$99 retail, puts this rod series at
the top of my list.

FENWICK® UPGRADES HMG®, HMX® AND
EAGLE® GT SERIES

Traditional Feel and Quality Emphasized
Fenwick®, one of the most recognized names in
quality fishing rods, has taken the popular HMG®, HMX® and
Eagle® GT lineups to another level of excellence. A new look
with updated rod blank construction and components provides
anglers with the latest in fishing rod technology and
performance.
The HMG Series, known as the rod that started the
graphite craze, features a carbon veil hoop fiber, creating a
shield of protection around the 100% High Modulus Graphite
blank. The result is a rod with a higher strength-to-weight
ratio and an increased sensitivity. The Fuji Alconite guides and
ACS & VSS reel seats provide greater strength and lighter weight
than other components on today’s market. The Fenwick exclusive
TAC handle design is more durable than cork and increases grip
in all fishing conditions.
The HMX Series features Cross-Scrim Graphite
Construction, which utilizes overlapping layers built from
carbon fiber for enhanced strength and action. HMX features
include low profile Pac Bay DPL and APL Frame Guides with TiCH
inserts and a lightweight graphite bodied reel seat with
cushioned stainless steel hoods.
The Eagle GT rods are redesigned with a
multi-laminate graphite layup, giving this series improved
sensitivity and strength in a lightweight platform. The Pac Bay
Hard Chromium Plated SS304 Guide system is perfect for braided
line and is lighter and stronger than standard aluminum oxide
guides.
Fenwick quality is guaranteed, with a lifetime
warranty for HMG models, five years for HMX and Eagle GT rods.
Pflueger Arbor Spinning Reel and Rod Combo

With a spinning rod designed specifically for the new reel
With the introduction of the new Pflueger Arbor spinning reel,
it became apparent the reel needed a special rod to benefit from
the reel’s oversized spool. Not just any spinning rod would do.
The result is a perfectly matched and balanced rod and reel
combination that takes advantage of the reel’s design and
purpose.
The Arbor reel is highlighted with an oversized, large arbor
spool, which winds the line on to the reel in larger loops. With
7 stainless steel ball bearings, the reel is smooth on the
retrieve. Made with a hybrid aluminum construction the reel is
lightweight. Oversized carbon fiber washers manage the sealed
drag system. Additional features include a graphite rotor,
Sure-Click™ bail and solid aluminum bail wire.
Two models are available; the Arbor 7430 reel is matched with
the 6’6” Arbor medium-light action rod. The Arbor 7440 reel
comes on the 7’0” Arbor medium action rod. The Arbor combo has
an MSRP of $99.95.
ReelsProdigy family grows with new rod series
Building on the remarkable popularity of their
Prodigy fishing reels, Cabela’s has engineered the same
innovation, quality and value into their new series of Prodigy
rods, which come in just under the $100 mark. ($99.99)

Available in both casting and spinning models,
Cabela’s Prodigy rods are super lightweight for all-day casting
comfort. Constructed from 54 million modulus blanks, they offer
a superior blend of backbone and sensitivity. Both styles
feature graphite reel seats designed by Cabela’s rod-building
experts, along with an exclusive weight-balancing system to
custom match the rod with any size reel. High-density EVA foam
grips with split handles and high-quality Pac Bay Hialoy guides
combine to provide added value to these durable, easy-casting
rods.

New KVD rods have fellow pros seeing red and
other anglers scrambling for the color

When the top money
winner in the history of professional bass fishing speaks, you
can hear a pin drop. Well, Kevin VanDam has been talking and
Quantum’s® product managers heard his description of
the perfect crankbait rod loud and clear. That’s good news for
bass enthusiasts everywhere because his new Tour KVD rod series
is now being made available for all to buy and use.
The KVD rod family
consists of six models, with each featuring the perfect blend of
lightweight graphite and E-glass construction. Every parabolic
action has been custom-tuned by VanDam himself to accommodate a
specific task of his no-nonsense fishing style that involves
long casts and errorless execution.
Chances are high that
you’ve already noticed the distinctive red rods he’s been using
for his top finishes in the BASS Elite series events of late
spring and early summer 2008. The color shows up well on the
television coverage and in the magazine photos highlighting his
success. Yet no one should be surprised that KVD opted out of
having the rods available just to him … he thrives on
competition played on a level playing field. “Put ‘em on the
market,” he told Quantum when they asked about making them
public.
The
rods in the series range from a 6’6” medium-light action model
to a 7’10” medium version. He calls the longest his “launcher”
because of how far he can throw a big crankbait after loading it
up on the rod’s full length of action from tip to butt.
“Graphite construction
keeps these rods light in weight, but E-glass makes for greater
durability, longer casts and better catch rates on crankbait
strikes,” VanDam explained.
All six rods are
casting models and feature Fuji ACS reels seats, Fuji Hardloy
guides with Concept spacing and EVA split-grip handles. Each is
backed by Quantum’s proven Limited Lifetime Warranty.
The KVD rods will be
on the market by November 2008 and will retail for around
$149.95.
