“…we are very proud of the 40 or
so members. They are all not unlike most fishermen. They
are proud of their sport, glad to lend a helping hand, and
always
want to do anything asked of them.”
ARKANSAS VALLEY BASSMASTERS
The
Arkansas Valley Bassmasters is the predominant bass club in the
Northwest Arkansas area. We are the oldest club in Arkansas as
well as one of the oldest B.A.S.S. Federation clubs in Arkansas.
Over the years some of the most well respected fishermen in the
area have been members. Most of our members are average hard
working guys who like to fish, but mostly just want to get
together with others to tell a tale or ask how
the family is doing. It is a great club. We don’t go looking for
ways to be recognized but we always help when asked.
Our tournament directors have been the ones to call if there
is a charity tournament or function that needs a good leader.
They have probably more experience running tournaments and
events than most people in the area. Our tournament
directors are respected for their abilities and accomplishments.
They have taken a simple Tuesday night jackpot tournament and
moved it from 10 to 20 boats a week to averaging over 45 boats.
We have had as many as 73 boats in a three-hour tournament.
Every fisherman in the area knows that if our directors are
responsible for the tournament, then there will be no questions
as to whether it was run correctly, fairly, and efficiently. We
are very lucky and proud to have this reputation.
In 2004 our little bass club helped at three charity events.
That is not a lot by some standards. It is however when you
consider that all of the events were far reaching in terms of
people in attendance. One event in particular comes to mind. It
was the Arkansas Free Fishing Weekend. We were on hand to help
at a small local lake for a kids fishing derby. We offered
instruction, answered questions, and donated prizes to the
children and parents. This was a very rewarding event because
most of the children had never fished. We were able to create a
positive memory for those children
and hopefully show them a new sport or hobby.
The Arkansas Valley Bassmasters from Fort Smith, Arkansas is
not a large club by some standards, but we are very proud of the
40 or so members. They are all like most fishermen. They are
proud of their sport, glad to
lend a helping hand and always want to do anything asked of
them.
