McNairy County Bass Club

The McNairy County Bass Club is based in West Tennessee and was formed approximately 25 years ago. And though it wears a “McNairy County” name, the membership comes from several surrounding counties as well.

“Yes, in addition to McNairy County, we also have members from Hardeman, Hardin counties in Tennessee and nearby Alcorn County in Mississippi,” said club president, Gilbert Gough, Savannah, Tenn.
He added that like many bass clubs, McNairy County Club has been cyclic as far as membership numbers go, and presently its ranks are on an upswing, with 20-plus members.

“For our locale, that’s pretty good participation these days, especially with rising fuel prices,” he said.

As the club is diverse in the members’ hometowns it is likewise as varied in age. Club members range in age from around 20 years old to 60-plus.
“We are just a group of guys that love to get together and fish. Come to think of it, we might not do many other things as a club, but we do like to fish — A LOT,” Gough laughed.

Indeed they do, the club annually finishes a 15-tournament schedule.
“We begin in March and end up with a year-ending club classic in November,” Gough said.

The club’s home waters or primary place for tournament competition is nearby Pickwick Lake, but he added that members like include other areas on their schedule, too. This includes those reservoirs along the Tennessee River system, Wilson and Wheeler reservoirs, as well as the Beech River watershed lakes, near Lexington, Tenn.

The club fishes for points, but an optional big-fish pot is available at all tournaments.McNairy County Bass club is an FLW affiliate, and annually sends qualifiers to compete at the state level.

The club meets the first Tuesday night of each month at a restaurant in Selmer, Tennessee.Anyone living in the McNairy County region of Tennessee interested in joining this club, or simply wanting more information about the club, is welcome to call Gough at (731) 925-3423.
