Bait
Berkley’s Jay’s Flippin’ Jig
The list of career accomplishments grew for Jay Yelas again in 2007 with the FLW
Angler of the Year award. He and the Berkley design team are now releasing the
secrets of a superior flippin’ jig. Pulling fish from heavy cover like timber,
weeds and docks requires durability, strength and consistency. Jay’s Flippin’
Jig utilizes the triple-coned and double-barbed bait “keeper” to prevent the
trailer, even Gulp!®, from sliding out of position. The jig’s heavy wire hook
provides the strongest hook set and a stout color matched weed guard protects
the hook point. The loud brass rattle enhances vibration and the 3-D Angry Eyes
give the jig head a menacing look. The PowerBait Chigger Chunk contains powerful
scent and flavor to make fish hold on 18 times longer than ordinary soft
plastics. The 3-inch Chigger Chunks wide body is tailor made for bass jigs, and
its flopping action triggers powerful strikes from fish in clear or murky water.
Berkley’s Hank’s Football Jig
Hank Parker has been fishing a
football jig since they were introduced and he knows what it
takes for one to be successful. Hank’s Football Jig is
constructed to stand upright while crawling the bait across
rocks and other hard cover, where most conventional jigs fall to
the side. 3D Angry Eyes with the jig’s action mimics prey
crawling over the structure. The recessed line tie keeps knots
secure and protected from abrasive surfaces. The medium wire
hook gives better hook sets at greater depths and on longer
casts while the flexible color-matched weed guard protects the
hook from cover. The 3” Double Tail Grub is held on the jig with
a three-coned and double-barbed bait keeper, so well designed
even Berkley Gulp! won’t slip. The trailer gives life to an
already impressive jig and includes the scent and flavor of
PowerBait. Even during a slow retrieve the Double Tail Grub
displays a quick swimming action.
Berkley’s Ike’s Finesse Jig
Teamed with the Berkley design team Ike is
sharing his enthusiasm and passion for catching fish with the
PowerBait Ike’s Finesse Jig. Ike has personally chosen the
tackle that is introduced with Ike’s Finesse Jig, one of most
innovative jigs Berkley has ever introduced. The flathead design
keeps the jig and trailer ensemble standing upright on the
bottom allowing for enhanced shaking and rocking actions.
Keeping trailers secure is no problem with the triple-coned and
double-barbed bait keeper. Even Berkley Gulp!® won’t slip. The
light wire, round bend hook is super sharp for solid hook sets
on long casts. The recessed line tie keeps the knot safe from
abrasive obstructions. The color matched nylon weed guard
protects the hook and the 3-D Angry Eyes add to the jig head’s
appearance. The Double Tail Grub was specially designed for
finesse applications but is also an exceptional trailer on other
jig shapes. The trailer has a quick swimming action even on slow
retrieves and utilizes PowerBait powerful scent that fish bite
and won’t let go.
Mann’s C-4 Elite Series
Power fishing is one of the hottest trends
on the national tournament trails. It involves covering lots of
shallow water and using a fast-moving lure that draws reaction
strikes often from inactive bass.
Introducing the C-4 Elite Series. This
big-bodied crankbait dives to 4 feet and produces incredible
vibration and wobble. The C-4 can be thrown in heavy cover or
areas that anglers don’t traditionally throw crankbaits. Its
square lip is designed to deflect off structure and prevent
hang-ups. Bass often strike after the bait hits an object and
appears ‘dazed’.
The C-4 is 3-inches long and weighs
3/8-ounce. It’s equipped with premium red hooks, textured body,
and is available in 12 hi-tech colors and finishes.

Salmo Skinner Shines as Deadly Twitch
Bait
Salmo has produced a new generation of
crankbait, one that is designed to re-define the word twitch
bait.
This amazing new lure is called the Salmo
Skinner and is not made of cheap plastic or balsa wood, but of a
space-age foam that gives it everything a competitive bass
angler would ever want in a lure. It is compact, casts a mile
and in the water delivers an action that is like no other
surface twitch bait a bass has ever seen.
The secret to the design starts with the
space-age foam material that allows the bait to ride deep in the
water for perfect balance. Standing still, the nose of the bait
sticks out of the water, but with a snap of the rod tip, the
nose slaps the surface and the tail quickly rises as the body
quickly flashes then goes back to rest.
The uniqueness of the Skinner does not end
here. This lure has flat sides, which has been proven to be far
superior at calling fish to the surface then traditional round
bodied, stick baits. The totally unique action of the flat-sided
Skinner kicks, flashes and bobs on the surface to drive bass
crazy.
FLW Pro Jim Moynagh proved to the world
the Skinner can do the job by taking 6th pace recently on Lake
Norman using the Skinner. Skinners are made by the Salmo Lure
Company of Poland and are the only crankbaits in the world that
offer a LIFETIME PERFORMANCE GUARENTEE on every lure they make.
For 2008 the Salmo Skinner will be
available in six colors.

Berkley’s Sinking Sensation

Texas rig, on a small jig head, weedless or wacky rig the 5-inch
Sink Worm; regardless of presentation, anglers will find
success. The versatility of Berkleys new 5-inch SinkWorm make
this bait a staple in any fisherman’s tackle bag. The weighted
formula allows the bait to sink faster than conventional
weighted baits with an action that is ideal to entice more
bites. With PowerBaits scent flavor formula fish hold on longer
for more positive hook sets. The 5-inch SinkWorm is available in
10 popular bass attracting colors to match any water condition.
Heavy Weights are more durable and cast further than similar
baits. The SinkWorm has a more slender profile than its cousin
the Fat SinkWorm.
BERKLEY® 5” HOLLOW BELLY™
The 5-inch PowerBait Hollow Belly is the newest addition to a
long list of swim baits from Berkley. Available in 6
fish-catching colors with a clear coat finish to magnify the
natural image, the Hollow Belly features an oversized paddle
tail. The action of the bait’s tail causes the body to “wobble”
in the water creating a lifelike look that fish simply can’t
resist. In addition to the colors and motion of the bait, the
Hollow Belly is made from PowerBait, the scent and flavor
formula that fish bite and won’t let go. The soft hollow body
collapses during the hook set for enhanced hook ups. The kit
also includes a size 2 treble hook, size 5 swivel, split ring,
3/32-ounce weighted 6/0 wide gap hook and three 5-inch Hollow
Belly bodies. Fish this bait in open water or through cover, the
Hollow Belly is designed to fish any type of situation.
BOOYAH Buzzin’ to Battle Cancer

The counter-rotating blades of a BOOYAH
Bi-You Buzz kick out a mighty broad spray, but the impact of
this twin-armed buzzbait extends beyond what it does on the
water. The BOOYAH Bi-You Buzz has been designated as the latest
Lure For a Cure — part of the Angling Against Cancer effort —
and a portion of proceeds from every Bi-You Buzz sold will go to
the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
The Bi-You Buzz is the fourth edition of
Lure for a Cure, but it takes on a different flavor than its
predecessors. Past editions were collector sets of pro-signature
lures and included Heddon Zara Spooks and Bomber Long A’s, Fat
Free Shads and Fat A’s.
Although many lure collectors undoubtedly
will keep a Bi-You Buzz or two in the original packaging to add
to a Lure for a Cure collection, most of these baits will spend
time buzzing along weedlines or among stick-ups, allowing
anglers to put more fish in the boat while at the same time
contributing to an important cause.
Pro anglers who have participated in the
Lure For a Cure program include Terry Segraves, who spearheads
the Angling Against Cancer effort, Timmy Horton, Terry
Scroggins, Kevin Wirth, Sam Swett, Peter Thliveros and Roland
Martin. Martin, the long-time host of Fishing With Roland
Martin, will be promoting this year’s Lure for a Cure on his
show and during his travels.
The Bi-You Buzz was introduced as the newest Lure for a Cure
last month during the Angling Against Cancer Benefit Dinner &
Tournament, which is put on annually by the Kissimmee Convention
& Visitors Bureau.
About the Bi-You Buzz: Along with making a
serious commotion, the counter-rotating blades on the Bi-You
Buzz create an exceptionally stable buzzbait that is very easy
to get to the surface. Available in eight color schemes, the
Bi-You Buzz comes equipped with the Leverage patented flexible
hook system, an XCalibur Tx3 black nickel hook and a 55-strand
Bio-flex silicone skirt with flash.

New HardNose Baits For 2008
Mann’s has several new HardNose baits for
2008. This includes the 10-inch Topwater Snake — designed to be
thrown in the nastiest of cover and slowly reeled across the
surface. It’s a blast to fish, because it does not have to be
reeled fast like ‘toad’ baits, and looks very natural swimming
across the water. And best of all, the HardNose feature makes it
fun to fish because no matter how hard its thrown or the type
cover it is dragged through it will always stay put on the hook!
It is available in six colors.
Mann’s 6-inch Wonder Worm is a versatile new bait that can be
fished weightless as a floating worm thanks to its slow-sinking
and erratic walk-the-dog action. In addition, it works great as
a finesse bait on jigheads or fished on traditional Texas- or
Carolina rigs. It is available in six colors.

The HardNose 9-inch Ribbontail Worm will
stay firmly in place on the hook no matter how you “lob” or
“sling” it. Available in eight colors, these baits are tough
enough to catch multiple fish before tearing.

SPRO’s K-Finesse, Hyrdro-Pop60 and
Shake and Bake
Building on its tradition of producing
innovative fishing products designed by professionals, SPRO
Corporation has several new lures for 2008. Among them are:
K-Finesse Gary Klein has taken jig
fishing to the next level with this newest series of SPRO jigs.
Available in weights ranging from 1/4 oz. to 7/16 oz., Klein
created the the K-Finesse with a new Gamakatsu hook that has the
hook eye recessed back onto the head of the jig, greatly opening
up the jig’s bite. Klein’s jig sets the standard for jigs.
Hydro-Pop60 BASS record holder Dean
Rojas created the brand new Hydro-Pop60 as part of his
topwater system for catching giant bass. At 3/8 oz and 60 mm,
the chugger boasts the perfect size and colors for enticing
topwater action. The #5 dressed treble is slightly bigger than
the industry standard for better hook-ups and higher landing
ratio. Available in seven distinct colors.
Shake and Bake The first lure in
Gary Klein’s signature series does not disappoint. At 3/8 oz.,
the Shake and Bak e
rattling jig was built using the new 3/0 EWG superline double
hook from Gamakatsu and a free swinging coiled trailer keeper.
The free-swinging hook greatly increases hook-ups and takes
leverage away from the fish. Available in five signature colors.
