The Boise Bass Busters are a club of local anglers dedicated
to the sport of competitive bass angling. We are located in
Southern Idaho and are a Meridian-based club. Our tournaments
are held on lakes and reservoirs ranging from the Columbia River
to the west, Hells Canyon Reservoir to the north and Milner and
Walcott reservoirs to the east. We have 10 very good bass
fisheries within two to three hours of Meridian, Idaho.
We hold seven club tournaments a year with two “throw-outs”.
We try to have what we call “fun fishes”. These are a
big-fish-only day of fun fishing. These are not actual
tournaments and do not count in the club point system. We use
these tournaments to allow entire families to fish, and we
usually have these on a body of water that most if any of our
club members have never fished.
Our tournament fees are low in order to eliminate the strong
competition. However, placing in the top 10 at end of the season
earns the members bragging rights until the next year’s end. It
also earns the members a spot on the Snow-Bowl Team. This is a
year-end tournament where each club in the state of Idaho sends
their top 10 members to compete as a 10-man, five-boat team, for
bragging rights of the state.
Plaques are presented at the year-end banquet, based on a
point system that rewards participation and consistency. We do
require that members acquire “member in good standing” points to
be eligible for the Snow-Bowl Team or Angler of the Year. These
points are given for simply attending any club function other
than scheduled tournaments throughout the year.
Boise Youth Bass Busters
We also have a very good youth program attached to the Boise
Bass Busters. Our youths fish right along with their
parent/mentor in all seven tournaments. We feel this allows the
youth to learn from their parent/mentor and allows them to be
part of our club by including them in the weigh-in and winners
announcements. The youth fish for their limits and compete only
among the other youngsters.
Boise Youth Bass Busters have sent a qualifier every year to
the “B.A.S.S. Youth World Championship” since it has begun. One
angler from the Boise Youth Bass Busters (James Riley Anthony)
has been to the B.A.S.S. Youth World Championship three years in
a row and in 2006 placed third in the 15 to 18 year old division
and third overall on the Harris Chain of Lakes in Florida. Riley
will make one more attempt to be the Idaho State Champion and
make a fourth appearance with the pros.
Each year, BBB holds our annual team open tournament on Lake
Lowell on the first Saturday following April 14. This is the
largest and most professionally operated tournament in the
Northwest. We average between 125 and 150 boats. The allure of
this particular tournament may be that we pay over $22,000 in
prize money including a single big fish award of $5,000.
Another draw may be that there is no prefish allowed for this
tournament. It is held on a lake that is closed to boats from
September 30 to April 15.
Our desire is to have a club where members not only share their
bass fishing skills and techniques, but also develop positive,
lasting friendships with one another through camping, barbecues
and regular meetings at a local pizza parlor.
We are looking for people who agree with our philosophy, have
a love for bass fishing and a spirit of competition. If you have
this desire, we want to talk to you.
