Abu Garcia® REVO® STX Upgraded

It can be tough to take a proven workhorse low profile baitcast reel and improve it. But Abu Garcia® has upgraded the popular Revo® STX with enhanced features to improve casting and fishability.

The Revo STX brake design is enhanced with the change to the Infini brake. The new brake system combines a sealed centrifugal brake with the original linear magnetic brake. This gives the angler the ability to fine tune the reel to meet any situation or condition.

All the favorite features of the original STX remain. Ten HPCR® (High Performance Corrosion Resistant) bearings, corrosion resistant IAR bearing, Duragear™  brass gears, Carbon Matrix™ drag  and Infini II™ spool are still part of the design.

The X-Cräftic alloy frame and side plates are lightweight and provide optimum corrosion protection.

The Revo STX is available in right or left hand versions and in two retrieve speeds of 6.4:1 and 7.1:1. The reel includes an attractive and compact profile bent handle and star drag.

Abu Garcia® REVO® Premier Upgraded

The Revo® Premier reel from Abu Garcia® literally beams quality. And the popular bass fishing reel has been given a facelift to make the lightest low profile aluminum baitcast reel even better.

The Carbon Matrix™ Drag System, with 20 pounds of maximum drag, is ultra smooth under heavy loads. Three additional HPCR® (High Performance Corrosion Resistant) bearings make this smooth reel even smoother.

The new Infini Brake design gives the angler more cast control for fighting the wind or changing between different weight baits. Infini Brake combines a sealed centrifugal brake with the original linear magnetic brake allowing both to be fished exclusively as a magnetic brake, as a centrifugal brake or the reel can be used with a combination of two. This gives the angler the ability to fine-tune the reel to meet any situation or condition.

Original features remain such as the X-Cräftic alloy frame and side plate for optimum corrosion protection and the Infini II™ spool design contributes to longer casts.

Weighing only 6.7 ounces, the Revo Premier is available in right or left hand versions and now sports an attractive and compact profile bent handle with flat EVA knobs and star drag. The gear ratio is 6.4:1 and the spool holds 145 yards of 12-pound monofilament fishing line.

Berkley® Powerbait® 3- And 4-inch Ripple Shad

The new PowerBait® Ripple Shad takes jig trailers to a new level. The solid body bait, available in 3-inch and 4-inch versions, has an oversized action tail and when combined with the segmented body, creates more bait vibration in the water with a powerful swimming action.

“Everything will eat the new Ripple Shad,” said Hank Parker, Berkley® Pro and TV Host. “The body is segmented and creates more water disturbance and better action. Freshwater or saltwater, this new bait catches more fish.”
The ribbed sides increase the surface area on the bait for better dispersion of the PowerBait scent. Oversized red eyes and lifelike body and color detail adds to the bait’s attraction.

To rig, simply thread the 3-inch Ripple Shad onto a 1/8 to 1/4-ounce darter or ball jig head with a 1/0 or 2/0 hook. Be sure the bait is rigged straight for optimum swimming action. For the 4-inch bait, use a slightly heavier jig head with a 3/0 or 4/0 hook.

Bass anglers have found this bait to be ideal for attracting suspended bass in timber and for retrieval across points. Threading a 1/0 or 2/0 weighted-hook, expose the hook through the back of the Ripple Shad, giving you the perfect swimbait for fish in and around cover.

Colors for the Ripple Shad include Firetiger, Glow/Chartreuse, Green Back Pearl, New Penny, Pearl White, Rainbow Trout, Smelt and Strawberry White. A package of 10 (3-inch) or 5 (4-inch) baits has an MSRP of $4.89.

Berkley Trilene® TransOptic®

Berkley® Trilene®, world leader in fishing line development, has produced TransOptic®, the world’s first color-changing nylon monofilament.

After four years in development, Berkley has designed a nylon monofilament line that captures UV rays to physically change the line’s color, making the line a hi-vis gold above the water and transparent below the surface where the UV rays are filtered out. The color-changing line benefits anglers that spend their days watching their line for the most subtle of bites. Anglers see the line, fish don’t.

“This line is for those anglers tired of squinting to see their line,” said Berkley Product Manager, Clay Norris. “TransOptic is the ‘Line Watcher’s Line’ for both freshwater and saltwater presentations where line watching is critical. Anglers can see the line twitch and set the hook before the fish can spit the bait.”

With superior knot strength, tough abrasion resistance and extra shock resistance, Berkley Trilene TransOptic is perfect for flipping, pitching, jigging and any application that calls for a hard hook set. Being a monofilament, the line is easily managed for a wide variety of baits and techniques.

Available in pound tests ranging from 4 to 25 pounds on 220-yard spools, Berkley Trilene TransOptic has an MSRP of $8.95 to $10.95. 2000 yard service spools are also available from 6 to 25-pound test.

Pflueger® Arbor Spinning Reel And Rod Combo

With the introduction of the new Pflueger® Arbor spinning reel, it became apparent the reel needed a special rod to benefit from the reel’s oversized spool. Not just any spinning rod would do. The result is a perfectly matched and balanced rod and reel combination that takes advantage of the reel’s design and purpose.

The Arbor reel is highlighted with an oversized, large arbor spool which winds the line on to the reel in larger loops. With 7 stainless steel ball bearings, the reel is smooth on the retrieve. Made with a hybrid aluminum construction the reel is lightweight. The sealed drag system is managed by an oversized carbon fiber washer. Additional features include a graphite rotor, Sure-Click™ bail and solid aluminum bail wire.

For the rod, Pflueger started with a one-piece IM-8 graphite blank for it’s light weight and enhanced sensitivity. To complement the line coming off the reel’s oversized spool, the Large Arbor Guide Concept system was developed. This includes a larger stripper guide that is reversed. This reduces line buildup before the front guide during casting. The remaining guides are also oversized to keep the line moving freely and are made from durable stainless steel. The cork handle split grip design provides a comfortable command of the combo and the graphite reel seat holds the Arbor reel securely to the rod.

Two models are available, the Arbor 7430 reel is matched with the 6’6” Arbor medium-light action rod. The Arbor 7440 reel comes on the 7’0” Arbor medium action rod.

Spiderwire® Stealth™ Brand

Spiderwire® is known for its strength and staying on the cutting edge of technology. Spiderwire has now improved the coating technology of Spiderwire Stealth™  for significantly improved casting distance and longer lasting color.

Breakthrough Color-Lock Technology holds in color, resists fading and won’t bleed. No need to color your faded braid with a permanent marker like some lines ask you to do. Perhaps more important, in a controlled casting test with identical equipment, improved Spiderwire Stealth is proven to outcast the competition by 15 percent.

Spiderwire Stealth Braid features Teflon®-impregnated microfibers for smooth casting. Made of ultra-high strength polyethylene (PE) fibers, this multi-carrier braid is smooth and round to resist digging in on spools, is whisper quiet and shoots through rod guides with less friction – adding distance to casts. Perfect for fishing in the vegetation- and structure-filled water that holds the big fish, Spiderwire Stealth Braid allows your line to stay hidden in the water for more strikes.

“Spiderwire Stealth Braid is tough and with the improved formula I am casting further than ever,” said Bobby Lane, Spiderwire Pro Team Member. “I can use this line with any application. Whether I am casting to bed fish or running a top-water, Spiderwire Stealth can do it all.”

Available in pound tests ranging from 6 to 100 pounds, Spiderwire Stealth Braid comes in 125-, 300- 1,500- and 3,000-yard spools with an MSRP of $13.95 to $403.50, depending on pound test and filler or bulk spool size.
